A little trip to Jersey

It’s always exciting to escape London and get back to the root of things.  We went to Jersey where I found some true inspiration to give this whole veg growing thing a proper go when it comes to sowing time next year.  A much needed push to overcome my not so successful lettuce attempts.

The source of the inspiration was Manor Farm where they have a wonderful farm shop selling the pickings from a selection of growers across Jersey.  It was seriously impressive.  The freshness and the variety were quite astounding – from beautiful rainbow chard to amazing squashes to ice cream and cheeses made on site from their very own Jersey cows.  I obviously won’t be keeping cows in my small patio garden, but I can at least have a go at growing some of the veg.

We ate some of it with a big old delicious rainbow trout, stuffed with herbs and lemon, drizzled with oil, wrapped up in baking paper and foil and baked for about 30mins at 180c.  All the vegetables tasted fantastic and were full of flavour without much interference from us cooks.
