Getting to the Essence

So I was searching for how to make vanilla extract and I came across this blogger: Chef and Steward.  It seemed like a pretty solid recipe so therefore what you have here I cannot take credit for.  It’s their method  (as far as I can tell there only really is one method) of making vanilla extract.

All you need is 230ml Rum and 3 Vanilla Pods and it’s as simple as this:

Split the vanilla pods.

Pour the rum into a sterilised jar, add the vanilla pods.

Seal and leave for a few months et voila, your very own vanilla essence.
